The Story of The Queen
The Queen Theater opened in 1925, and it's where famed playwright (and Whartonian!) Horton Foote watched silent movies. The property, located at 300 W. Milam Street at the intersection of Polk and W. Milam, is included in the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing property within the Wharton County Courthouse Historic Commercial District.
The latest renovations were completed by Nedra Johnson in 2020 during the midst of a global pandemic. The beautiful Victorian decor, original characteristics, remarkable updates, and spacious main hall pay homage to the building's long history while delivering a venue for modern event attendees.

Meet the Owner
Nedra Johnson
After spending 41 years in the insurance industry, owner Nedra Johnson took the leap from part-time property management and event venue booking to full-time caterer and event venue host.
In 2014, she leased a building located on the same block where she was able to apply her creativity and go-getter mindset to design and host events and parties of all kinds for the Wharton and surrounding communities. Nedra wanted to bring a special, elevated event experience to Wharton, Texas after attending a local event and realizing that options were lacking. She was motivated to provide locals with an elegant space of which they were deserving - one of which the community could be proud.
"I'm a people person, and I like interacting with my guests and understanding their needs and aspirations," says Nedra. "Whatever the occasion, I'm glad to be a part of it and feel blessed to be involved. I'm very hands-on and want to make sure each event goes off without a hitch and is exactly as it was envisioned."
